Jay earned a Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in Urban Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a BS in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University and an AS in Sociology from Columbia State Community College. He moved to Louisiana in 2001 to help plant Northshore Church in Slidell. Since that time, he has worked with students, served as associate pastor, building coordinator, leader of discipleship and small group ministry, led several mission trips to Haiti and currently serves as Executive Pastor. Jay and his wife, Bronie, are natives of Tennessee, and have four beautiful children: Ryan, Emily, Wyatt and Elijah.

Dr. Jeff Nave, Associate Pastor/Counselor

Dr. Nave, or just “Jeff” to us, is a professor at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary who brings over 15 years of ministry experience and 10 years of experience in the field of professional counseling to the Pastoral Care and Counseling Ministry at Northshore Church. He strives daily to help others realize more fully and celebrate the depth of love that God has for each and every one of us.

 

Byron Long, Worship Pastor

Byron has been leading worship through music since 1998 throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, particularly the Gulf-Coast region. He is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Worship Ministries. In a culture that is constantly evolving, Byron’s philosophy of ministry is built upon the unchanging proclamation of Jesus that if He is lifted up, He will draw all men unto himself. Byron hopes to be nothing more than instrument of God both on and off the stage. His passion for Spirit-driven worship through music and art is contagious to the people of Northshore Church.

Luis Socarras, Pastor to Families with Students

Luis Socarras is a man of faith with a strong desire for missions and evangelism. He provides overall leadership and pastoral ministry to our youth, as well as their families. Luis presents the gospel to the youth in ways in which they can relate. His ministry is highly motivational, and offers opportunities for personal and spiritual development. His methods are enthusiastically endorsed by parents!  Luis and his wife Darla are not afraid of the dark, not afraid to step out where they cannot see. They invest in the students’ lives outside the church and in youth meetings! We are blessed to have a man with such passion for our youth of today, with the education, knowledge, and years of experience that Luis has already achieved.

Andrew Ogea, Community Groups Pastor

Andrew has a Master of Divinity degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and has been fulfilling his call as a minister of the Gospel for the past 10 years. He loves Jesus and lives to lead others into a relationship with Him. He is also passionate about leading the church on a mission to communicate the Good News in word and deed so that lives and communities can be transformed. Andrew and his wife Amy live in Slidell, and have three children, Macy, Ellie, and Caleb.

Emily Holland, Children's Minister

Emily was born in Lexington, MS, and became a Christ follower at the age of 8. She graduated from MS College in 2010 with a BA in Psychology and Christian Studies. She then felt called to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to pursue her MA in Marriage and Family Counseling and graduated in May 2013. It was here that she discovered a deep love for ministering to children, adolescents and their families. Emily is married to Cody Holland and enjoys playing sports, reading, fishing and cycling.

Julie Alphonso, Ministry Assistant

Julie and her husband Joseph were married in 1990. Both were newly saved with a desire to learn and grow in the Lord. Together with their daughter, Becky, they enjoy being involved in their community group, the 180 Student Ministry and the children’s ministry. It's definitely a family thing for them! Julie and her family have found their church home here at NSC and are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve their Savior and His church here.
